I am a Londoner, 45 years of age in 2009, I moved to Spain in 2005 and spent a very happy year living in the white Spanish village of Valor Granada. At 3000 feet above sea level and looking south over the Contraviesa mountain range towards the sea, Valor will always hold many happy memories for me. This web site is dedicated to all the locals and geeries in Valor and the surrounding villages of the Alpujarra

Most people come to Casa La Ladera to relax but you may fancy doing more while you are here. The most obvious activity is walking and the surrounding area offers a wide range of wonderful walks. We are situated minutes from the GR7 walking route.
Guided Walking Breaks
At Casa La Ladera we can offer you guided walks to suite your ability, fitness or just your mood. Contact us and we can tailor a package to meet your requirements. Whether it is a day, a few days, a week or longer we will be happy to arrange walks to make your stay memorable. Groups bookings are welcome.

If it is just a stroll you want then we will happily point you in the right direction for an easy walk.

Casa La Ladera is situated about 1000 metres above sea level so the going is harder up here. If you still feel confident enough to try something more challenging then we can recommend some longer walks. We can also provide a guide if you want to get the full experience of walking in the Alpujarras.

Swimming Pool
Relax in our 10 x 5 metre swimming pool with terrace.

Planned activities for Casa La Ladera
In the coming months we will be in a position to offer horse riding and quad biking, both by arrangement.

Bar In The Alpujarra

Casa La Ladera boasts a traditional Spanish tapas bar where you can sit and partake in anything from a coffee or soft drink to a wide range of alcoholic beverages. If you want something more substantial to eat then try one of our raciones or order from the restaurant.

For something different why not join us for one of our regular quiz evening, you could even win some money. Contact us for details.

Relax in our comfortable lounge and have a drink, read a book, play pool or watch some television.

If the weather is nice, and it nearly always is then move outside into our large terrace and enjoy the wonderful views over the eastern Alpujarras and the Sierra de Gador.

The Restaurant

At Casa la Ladera we offer a select range of freshly prepared Northern European cuisine. Although all our meals are of a very high standard you might like to try one of our speciality fish dishes.

Eat in style in our dinning room or for a more relaxed atmosphere you can dine in the lounge or terrace area.

On Sundays you can sample a Great British roast dinner with all the trimmings.

If it it something lighter you require why not try our delicious tapas or raciones available in the bar area.

Alpujarra Accommodation

If it’s peace and tranquility in beautiful surroundings you are looking for, then you really must visit Casa La Ladera.
Casa La Ladera combines a restaurant offering fine Northern European cuisine with a traditional Spanish Tapas bar and luxurious accommodation.

Casa La Ladera is custom built, bringing together the traditional style of the Alpujarras and modern day sophistication. The hotel has been built by local tradesmen using traditional materials to create an atmosphere that is sympathetic to its surroundings.

Situated in the picturesque Alpujarra mountains of Southern Spain, between the historical villages of Valor and Yegen with easy access to the coast or the skiing areas of the Sierra Nevada, we are ideally placed to provide a base for those wanting a longer stay. The area offers superb walks, from easy strolls to challenging hikes (a guide can be provided if required).

If it is relaxation you are looking for then why not take advantage of our lounge equipped with Spanish and English television or the peace and quiet of the terraces and extensive grounds with swimming pool.

Should you wish to make your stay more than just a short visit, there are four luxury apartment style rooms to choose from, each with French style doors opening onto the stunning scenery of the eastern Alpujarras and the Sierra de Gador giving unrivalled views of the sunrise. If sunrise is too early for you then sit and watch the mountains change colour with the sunset. Three of our rooms have their own terraces and two have a private sitting room, all are en-suite. At Casa La Ladera all rooms and facilities are wheelchair accessible.

If you are looking for luxury and tranquillity in stunning surroundings then Casa La Ladera is the place for you.

Taha de Pitres

Roughly within the 1200 metre altitude barrier.

This easy walk takes in 4 important historical villages that fall within the civil authority known as the Taha de Pitres.

La Taha, an Arabic term applied to the geographical area of administrative organisation now long since replaced in all areas of Spain with the exception of the Pitres region. There the Christians continued to use the term and the structure for practical reasons.

Pitres marks the start of the walk along the Caminos Reales. An area not more than 2 kms. long, it can be completed within 5 to 6 hours.

There are significant examples of Moorish architecture and cultural flavour along the route, which includes the villages of Mecina, Ferreirola, Atalbeitar, Busquistar and finally Portugos, where the stream known as the Fuente Agria or bitter fountain is located at the Virgen de las Angustian hermitage.
